The Role

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the purpose of the role is to work within the Humber International Terminal and ensure that all ABP’s direct operations and agreed customer requirements are met always in line with accepted safety, environmental working and quality standards.

As a part of a team, the control room operator will ensure that cargo intake is facilitated within, and re-claimed from the allocated stockyard coordinates or silo, and that the dispatch schedules for road/rail cargo are successfully maintained.

Accountabilities

  • To actively promote ABP’s safety culture and ensure compliance with Health Safety and Environmental requirements and other legislation including the development and review of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work, delivering associated TBT’s as required.
  • To carry out the job role in accordance with company Safety Organisation and Arrangements policy.
  • Have a proactive approach towards the 6 strategic pillars and be proactive in – Putting customers first, creating a great workplace, working safely and sustainably, continual improvement, providing effective infrastructure & being good neighbours.
  • To react to changes to pre-planned operations ensuring that it is communicated, monitored and achieved with a comprehensive debrief undertaken with lessons learned.
  • To develop and maintain direct links with key contacts, both internal and external as required in order to co-ordinate operational activities.
  • Monitoring of Terminal Control “Safety” Systems, ensuring that abnormalities are escalated to line managers.
  • Monitor the environmental impact of terminal operations, effectively deploying environmental control systems, ensuring that all operations are carried out and recorded in accordance with LAPCC Environmental permit.
  • Continually develop a working appreciation of the Terminal Management/Control systems (Coal & Biomass) and Weighbridge system, including stock entry; providing customer stock information; liaising with Customers and Agents.
  • Work with Terminal Management Team to develop ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System as required, participating in internal/external audits when requested and the addressing of corrective actions.
  • Look to contribute to a continual improvement culture amongst staff, through the development of improved systems/procedures that will drive forward all aspects of the terminal operation.
  • Maintain accurate data logs to ensure operational performance can be reviewed.
  • Liaise with the appointed Port Rail Coordinators, Freight Operating companies, Network Rail and ABP Rail Terminal Operators to ensure that the weekly dispatch schedule is maintained, and that any stoppages and ‘off plan’ variances are recorded and communicated to the Planning team.
  • Ensure the effective deployment of service providers in accordance with the requirements of the shift plan, recording any issues and ensuring that these are communicated to the supervisory team.
  • Liaise closely with the Operations and Engineering teams, ensuring that equipment is available / cleaned to allow planned maintenance to be effectively carried out, therefore minimising operational disruption whenever possible.
  • Ensure that the shift handover is detailed and documented.
  • Understand and ensure relevant KPI targets are met.
  • Liaise closely with Cleaning, Engineering and external contractor teams ensuring that Safety procedures are adhered to with regard to access to/within IRFT system.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • A sound knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Service and Customer driven with good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.
  • A sound knowledge of Plant/Control Room/Weighbridge systems, preferably in a similar industrial environment.
  • Pro-active approach with sound organisational skills.
  • Sound I.T skills which should include Outlook, Excel & Word.
  • Experience of working in a pressurised environment with a track record of meeting targets in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.

Ideal:

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience of working in a Continuous Improvement culture within a process driven environment.
  • Experience in first line response during Emergency situations.
  • Experience of BLU code.
