The role will be responsible for ensuring high standards of safety, statutory compliance, maintenance and continuous improvement to enable safe, legal operation at high availability from the plant assets.

The North side of the plant as well as containing process equipment has a high level of mechanical handling equipment (conveyors / screws / chains), milling equipment and large scale gas fired dryers.

The plant is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is expected that the role will largely be based on days, but with an occasional requirement to work shifts to meet business needs. There will also be a need to attend site out of hours on a call-out basis to assist with processing or equipment difficulties that cannot be left until the following day.

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience required

  • The incumbent will have extensive experience of working in a similar position on a large scale manufacturing site (ideally COMAH), with a track record of delivery proven over a number of years and will be fully familiar with the relevant legislative requirements.
  • Well established root cause analysis skills and extensive experience of implementing actions to improve equipment reliability.
  • Extensive experience of implementing / improving mechanical preventive maintenance programmes.
  • Experience of implementing plant reliability improvement projects.
  • It is expected that the Job Holder will hold a Degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline or be able to demonstrate equivalent technical knowledge via work experience / other qualifications. Ideally the job holder will be a Chartered Engineer or working towards that goal.

  • Able to work efficiently in a team environment and possess a level of communication and interpersonal skills that will facilitate working closely with operations engineers, design engineers, and staff responsible for purchasing.
  • Creative problem solving will be required to be able to work with high level hardware and software.
  • Project management skills are essential.
  • The role requires good verbal, written and presentation skills, in order to be able to communicate effectively at all levels
