Tackling Modern Slavery

Business Seminar

Tuesday 15th January 2019 * 1700 – 1930 *

Business Hive, Grimsby

****Refreshments & supper provided - Limited places ****

It is everyone’s duty to report Modern slavery and trafficking. Do you know what it looks like? Do you know who to tell?  Have you ever considered how your strawberries get from the farm to the fridge?

Modern slavery is in your community, in the places you work and visit and is often in plain sight. From car washes to nail salons, how do we identify and break the chain of labour exploitation?

Meet Cristina Talens who is working with businesses to spot modern slavery in their supply chains, both in the UK and overseas.  Learn about the North East Lincolnshire Graft Project from leader Trish Leivesley who will explain the links between Modern Slavery, Trafficking and Child Exploitation.  Find out how to identify signs of modern slavery and trafficking, improve your business response and find out what support is available.

Speaker profiles: Cristina Talens is Director of Modern Slavery Risk Assessments at Hull University’s Wilberforce Institute. Her work includes social audit assignments and risk assessments on behalf of businesses and supports them on the requirements of the Modern Slavery Act. Most notably, the Wilberforce Institute is working with the John Lewis Partnership to address risks of slavery in supply chains.
