Ongo Recruitment is seeking an apprentice for an exciting new community venture in Westcliffe, bringing energy and enthusiasm to help to make the cafe a success.

To learn all aspects of catering  including food preparation and cooking of good quality homemade food, food service, cleanliness and food safety.  

To develop customers service skills and present and maintain a friendly and welcoming environment in which customers, staff and volunteers alike feel comfortable, enjoying excellent service.

To take a relevant qualification through North Lindsey College

To be involved in menu planning, food preparation and cooking, and serving customers.

To assist in preparation of buffets for the Arc and outside catering customers

To help with setting up rooms for meetings and events, setting out and clearing away food and drinks for customers in meeting rooms

To ensure the kitchen, serving area and public cafe are kept clean and tidy at all times to meet Environmental health standards including washing, clearing  and cleaning and using the dishwasher

To support compliance with current regulations relating to Health and Safety at Work, Food Handling and Hygiene Regulations  

To handle cash and card payments and use an EPOS till system 

Deal with telephone and face to face queries promptly and concisely, answering customers in a professional, courteous and timely fashion

To participate in personal support and supervision, undertake personal development training as appropriate to the post.

Undertake other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grading of the post as considered appropriate

Contacts & Relationships

  • The apprentice  will be required to develop relationships with the Cafe team, customers and staff
  • The apprentice will need to have effective interaction with a range of customers, local community members and professionals

Work Demands  

•        Ability to work flexibly and outside normal working hours; evenings and weekends.

•        Ability to meet the requirements of the College with regard to study  based work

Physical Demands

  • Will be required to stand for long periods, move around the cafe and kitchen areas  and carry heavy items

Working Conditions

  • Mainly cafe based, but with a need to occasionally visit the Company’s head office  

Work Context

  • Some risk to personal safety due to customer contact
