08:00 to 15:00 & 10:00 to 17:00 (alternating on a weekly basis), 32.5 hours per week, term time only. Plus: 2 days at start of each term, and 2 days at the beginning of each academic year.

Main Function:

To provide comprehensive technical support and to provide a high-level support service to staff and pupils.


Duties:


• Under the direction of the Senior Technician coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities including:
- the provision of assistance and advice on the practical requirements of the science curriculum
- liaising with teaching staff and other support staff inside and outside the science faculty


• Ensure and promote the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment by:
- contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review of health and safety procedures and relevant information
- keeping up to date with current procedures and practices through identified CPD
- the provision and dissemination of advice on health and safety issues to teaching and technical staff
- the safe treatment and disposal of used materials, including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards
- the healthy, safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials


• Assist the Senior Technician with the day-to-day organisation of the technical team as needed and ensure that essential performance standards are achieved


• Contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects

• Offer professional guidance, assistance and support to pupils and teachers on practical aspects of the science curriculum as necessary


• Support the Senior Technician in ensuring availability of suitable materials and equipment by:
- helping compile orders
- liaising or negotiating with suppliers
- sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels
- keeping up-to-date records of stock

• Under the overall guidance of the Senior Technician, ensure that both routine and non-routine cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard


• Deputise for the Senior Technician and take a lead role in a specialist subject area as required
Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications:
- Good interpersonal skills
- Extensive experience of working in a senior school science faculty
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within a science faculty
- Recognised science qualification
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software


Working Relationships:
- Internal: Subject Leader Science, Senior Technician, Science Technicians, Teaching Staff and Pupils
- External: CLEAPSS and Suppliers.
