Reporting to the Head of Commercialisation, the core purpose of the role is to provide a contracts service for research and knowledge exchange activities. This will involve drafting, negotiating and reviewing all contracts with research funders, companies, and other partners, as well as the provision of advice and training to internal staff.

As our ideal candidate you will recognise that the delivery of this function has the potential to substantially influence the delivery and impact of research and enterprise activities across the institution. You will have significant experience of drafting and negotiating contracts in an academic, government, industrial or other organisation, and will have excellent knowledge of contract law and intellectual property law.

You will possess excellent drafting skills and will be comfortable exercising judgement as to the appropriate course of action in grey areas. You will offer practical and workable advice. As an effective communicator, you will be able to withstand challenge when needed and will establish credibility with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.

You will be enthusiastic and ambitious, and will want to provide excellent customer service. You will recognise the importance of forming strong working relationships with those around you, and will work particularly closely with colleagues in the Research and Innovation team. You will be expected to work on your own initiative within an agreed framework and with limited supervision. Given this degree of autonomy, it is essential that you have strong planning and organisational skills, as well as the judgement to recognise when to escalate a concern. You will have the ability to work under considerable pressure and to tight deadlines.

You will take pride in the accuracy and quality of your work, and will be attentive to detail. You will be keen to innovate and improve processes wherever possible.

The post is available immediately. Applications for part-time or flexible working will be considered.
