The Faculty of Health Sciences is a major contributor to the region’s healthcare workforce and carries out world-leading research to tackle some of the biggest health challenges facing society. Formed in 2017, the Faculty is a new and ambitious organisation with exciting plans for teaching and research.  With cutting edge new facilities, expert staff and close links with the NHS and industrial partners, our students are able to develop the knowledge and skills to pursue a wide range of professions.  The post holder will provide technical assistance and expertise in a project funded by the Hull and East Riding Cardiac Trust to investigate novel cardiovascular biomarkers using human samples. He or She will be working in our laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, a thriving multidisciplinary teaching and research unit that inspires students and undertakes innovative health-related research to make real impacts that benefit society. 

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the team in the laboratory of Pedro Beltran-Alvarez.  You will fully support the research laboratory activities of researchers and students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, ensuring that the laboratories are prepared for experimentation and are compliant with relevant Health and Safety policy and legislation.  You will provide knowledge and skills across a number of techniques and disciplines, train and supervise others in these areas, and cover other essential core functions.  Previous knowledge of and experience in the following would be an advantage:

  • Biochemistry techniques. 
  • Western blot and dot blot
  • Immunological assays – immunoprecipitation, ELISA, protein measurement assays.
  • Handling of human samples and health, safety and ethical considerations associated with human material.
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Post-translational modifications of proteins, for example arginine methylation.

The role will also include responsibility for maintaining laboratories equipment and stocks as well as keeping all Health & Safety documentation up to date.
