KIDS is a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970.

We work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years. Each year we support over 15,000 disabled children, offer over 120 different services and work with about 80 Local Authorities across England.

About The Role
The purpose of this role is to ensure that all parents/carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities have access to impartial information, advice and support.
 

As a SENDIASS Practitioner you will be providing information, advice and support to the families of disabled children and young people. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills in a rewarding role, and gain a strong sense of achievement.

The successful candidate will:
  • Provide accurate and up-to-date information to parents/carers on all aspects of Special Educational Needs in line with current Government legislation and local procedures, e.g: Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice (Revised) January 2015, The Disability Discrimination Legislation, Exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, SEND Regulations 2014.
  • Offer support to parents and carers to enable them to participate confidently and effectively and in an informed way in the decision-making process regarding their child’s education. This will be through a combination of: Telephone conversation and home visiting to help with preparing for meetings, including documentation, writing letters and reports 
    Support at school, LA or other meetings, to act as a an advocate, if necessary.
Candidates should be qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 in advice and guidance or equivalent.
