East Riding College is a successful further education college with over 4,000 young people and adults accessing our wide range of academic, vocational and professional courses and apprenticeships.  The number of young people, aged 16-19, enrolling at the College continues to grow as does the range and scope of our adult programmes with a significant increase in higher education (HE) provision in recent years.

The College plays an important role in supporting the growth of the regional economy and works closely with Local Enterprise Partnerships and employers to ensure the education and training programmes we offer are directly related to the skills required by local businesses.

In 2009, we opened a brand new campus in Bridlington, which won the prestigious title of ‘Best Educational Building in Yorkshire’ followed by our new state-of-the-art Flemingate Centre which opened in Beverley in 2015 and offers excellent facilities for staff and students.

Being a governor is a fantastic opportunity to give something back to the local community.  Our primary focus is the teaching and learning experience of our students but it is also about ensuring the college assets – staff, facilities and finances – are strong and able to continue to meet the needs of the communities we serve.    This voluntary role can also bring many personal and professional rewards such as boardroom experience, adding to your CV and a positive step towards long-term career development.

The work of the Corporation is undertaken through a series of regular Board and Committee meetings. Most governors attend around 8-12 formal meetings a year, alongside the opportunity to attend training/networking events and College events, for example, staff conferences, learner focus groups and award ceremonies. Meetings are held first thing in the morning or in the evening, mainly at our Beverley Campus.

East Riding College is a diverse organisation with a good gender balance and ethnic representation.  The College is committed to the principle that all learners, members of staff and Governors are entitled to equality of opportunity and we welcome applications from all.  We are keen to involve people of all ages and gender, disabilities, cultural backgrounds and sexual orientation, including trans-gender.   The College is serious about its safeguarding of young people and any successful candidate will be subject to the relevant checks.

Governors are appointed for four years and being a Governor is a voluntary role.  Members are, however, encouraged to claim for travel and subsistence whilst on College business.

Further information about the Governing Body is available on the governance section of the College website:
