We are seeking a high calibre Finance Business Partner to join our Science Faculty Accounting team. The Science Faculty has 10 key departments, around 7000 students, a number of dedicated research facilities and research centres with annual turnover of £170m, £75m attributable to research.  You will perform the key role of Finance Business Partner/Management Accountant and oversee the finances for the Hull York Medical School and be an active contributing member of the Science Faculty Accounting team.


Hull York Medical School is a collaboration between the Universities of Hull and York and the NHS. The School operates from both University campuses and within teaching hospitals and medical practices throughout the Yorkshire and Humber region.


You will perform a key role in the management of local budgets and shaping strategic financial forecasts, working with colleagues based across both the Universities of Hull and York campus.

You will be a technically competent individual with excellent communication and line management skills.  You will have the ability to liaise with a wide range of academic, support and facilities staff with differing financial understanding. You will be instrumental in the production of a high standard of quality management information and financial plans.

As a positive ‘can-do’ individual you will work flexibly to offer a consistently high level of customer service to the Hull York Medical School, whilst successfully delivering on reporting and management deadlines.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Accountancy qualification (for example ACA, ACCA or CIMA), with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience
  • Excellent knowledge of University finance systems, processes and regulations
  • Experience of accounting for research and other grant funded activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of direct staff management
  • Ability to establish and nurture productive partnerships both internally and externally
