Role Overview

The Head of Communications will join our existing small team to lead, manage and coordinate all strategic internal and external communications for the Group of Sewell Companies. The function includes all areas of communication, including PR, lobbying, brand, design, digital media and the production of copy and collateral.

The Head of Communications will work closely with our Group marketing lead and business unit directors, bringing energy and new ideas to the table, to take both our internal and external communications to a new level. We are seeking a talented individual with initiative, a flair for managing a busy and varied portfolio, who can work with a wide range of stakeholders, is ‘hands on’, fast paced and results driven.

Hours

37.5 hours per week, 8.30am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead on the development and implementation of Group communications strategies in response to business strategies and marketing plans, working with the wider Comms team;
  • Lead the wider Comms team effectively to develop appropriate and timely outputs, including team performance management, appraisals, appointments and co-ordination of workload;
  • Continually review positioning for the Group and individual business units and ensure the businesses are promoted effectively and successfully to support business development, customer growth and retention;
  • Contribute to the protection of a number of strong regional brands, proactively advising our boards and business leaders;
  • Review performance indicators for the different business units to ensure clearer analysis of results of campaigns/initiatives;
  • Lead on internal communications plans, working alongside our People Team;
  • Coordinate and manage events across the Group, liaising with colleagues, partners and clients as appropriate;
  • Manage and coordinate all social media outlets with specific short and long term communication plans;
  • Produce high quality copy for a range of communication outputs;
  • Up skill our teams, continually improving the Group’s communications skills;
  • To develop the different business unit board knowledge and skill in communicating during crisis;
  • Ensure brand corporate guidelines are used consistently throughout the company;
  • Maintain positive relations with clients, partners and media.

Requirements

Skills and attributes:

  • Be CIM qualified, or another relevant qualification
  • A full UK driving licence, valid in the UK, and own transport
  • Have extensive experience in a marketing and communications role at a senior/managerial level
  • Be capable of juggling a varied portfolio of work, to time, budget and quality expectations
  • Be able to demonstrate strong management experience and resource planning
  • Have previous experience across some of the following: construction, property development, energy markets, facilities management, retail and consultancy industries in both the public and private sector
  • Energy, passion and excellent communications and relationship skills
  • Boast an innovative and creative mind to support the development of communications content and strategies
  • Experience of managing digital, film and PR agencies
  • Crisis management experience at a senior level
  • Ability to project manage multiple accounts or work streams in a fast paced environment
  • Experience managing client and media relations
  • Advanced levels of computer literacy with Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A team player, with a hands on approach; you will be expected to be involved in delivery, not just management of others
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and the confidence to respectfully challenge
  • Possess a positive approach to learning and development
  • Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked
