1884 Wine & Tapas Bar has built an unrivalled reputation for blending comfort with class to provide an award-winning dining experience. 

The restaurant, tucked away at the quiet, western corner of Hull Marina, pioneered the regeneration of the area when it opened in 2010 as The Wilson Gastrobar.

It brought something different again when it transformed into 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar in May 2015, and it made an instant impact with the promise of simple, local produce given a tapas twist, plus hard-to-find wines and Spanish beers to wash it all down.

The venue was a hit from the start, attracting glowing reviews for a dining experience which maintained the high standards and the easy-going approach by bringing a splash of the Mediterranean to the Humber riviera. It continues to impress, and is open seven days a week.

Restaurant Director Deborah Spicer oversaw the complete re-design of the building to incorporate dining booths overlooking the Marina, a private table for those special occasions, birdcage chandeliers and wall-sized wine cabinets as well as a sheltered al fresco area.

The transformation was enough to help 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar rack up the awards, starting with the REYTAs restaurant category in 2016, and it has become a favourite with the business community for important, corporate occasions and for more relaxing, repeat visits with family and friends.

Deborah’s own background in hospitality ensures attention to detail and the strongest commitment to the highest levels of customer service. That dedication cascades through a team eager to demonstrate that the innovation which marked the launch of 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar remains at its heart, with ideas as fresh as the locally-sourced produce.

The restaurant is a regular venue – and a source of inspiration – for the Monday Night Supper Club, an informal dining group which comprises many Bondholder members. It also organises celebrations for big dates in the calendar such as Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day and it create special events of its own with wine tasting nights and more.

Businesses in the Hull area responded positively to a series of breakfast briefings, which Deborah plans to repeat. 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar is also developing the concept of Marina Mondays and will be working with other businesses to underline the fact that genuine customer care means service seven days a week.

To raise awareness that Mediterranean food is an option all year round the restaurant introduces Asado Sundays during the winter months, offering a few of the favourite tapas dishes as well as a new take on the traditional roast. Children are catered for with the Los Niños commitment – not a separate menu but a commitment to create bespoke dishes to appeal to the younger diners.

More initiatives are planned as 1884 Wine & Taps Bar rolls out a marketing plan which is all about building strong partnerships.
