Grimsby, UK – 12th October 2018: On Tuesday 9th October, Young’s Seafood co-hosted 200 of the world’s leading seafood businesses in a networking event at the House of Commons to kick off the start of the International Groundfish Forum.

The Internation Groundfish Forum is a meeting place for the prominent members of the groundfish business worldwide. The purpose of the networking event was to bring together the UK’s leading seafood companies to welcome the forum delegates to the UK, and discuss the importance of the UK’s seafood industry. The networking event was led by Grimsby’s Young’s and Seachill, representing the UK processing sector, and Seafish, the public body supporting the £10bn UK seafood industry.

Melanie Onn, MP, spoke on behalf of Grimsby and highlighted that Young’s, and the other seafood companies in Grimsby, account for a third of all UK chilled seafood made, and just under a third of all frozen seafood made (kantar data). She went on to praise the area’s seafood heritage and importance to the UK, with both Young’s and Seachill recently announcing hundreds of additional jobs in the sector due to contract wins.

Marcus Coleman, CEO at Seafish, then delivered the key note speech, and spoke of the UK’s growing demand for quality seafood and how innovative companies like Young’s were driving it. He closed citing that the UK is a nation of seafood lovers, with a clear passion for seafood that extends to the way in which we like to do business; sourcing sustainably and responsibly and exciting consumers with innovative and creative new products.

Stuart Caborn, Chief Procurement Officer at Young’s, said ‘The event was attended by most of the major seafood companies from around the world, and we were delighted to welcome them to the UK to kick off the start of the International Groundfish Forum’.
